At the Medical Affairs Department of Sanwa Kagaku Kenkyusho, in line with our corporate philosophy of delivering "Patient-friendly 'medicines' for people around the world." we aim to provide optimal healthcare to all patients. We achieve this by conducting various activities in accordance with the mission proposed by the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, contributing to maximizing the value of pharmaceuticals and improving healthcare in target areas.
- To build up a body of medical and scientific evidence*2 to enable the unmet medical needs*1 of healthcare professionals and patients to be met, and to disseminate information to healthcare professionals and other stakeholders.
- Using advanced or the latest scientific knowledge, engage in medical and scientific exchanges with external medical science experts*3.
*1 Medical needs that are not sufficiently met in relation to both healthcare professionals and patients.
*2 Scientific basis or evidence that has been validated through papers and conference presentations.
*3 An external expert with outstanding knowledge in a specific field related to medicine or science and who holds a leading position in his/her respective field or in related academic societies.
Specific Roles of Medical Affairs
- Conducting and supporting conference presentations and manuscript creation through various research and survey activities, such as company-initiated studies (CIS) for post-marketing surveillance of pharmaceuticals and collaborative research with academia.
- Handling of investigator-initiated studies (IIS) for marketed pharmaceuticals
- Development of medical plans*4 related to assigned pharmaceuticals and their respective fields, and execution of various activities based on those plans
- Facilitate medical and scientific information exchange and discussion with external medical and scientific experts in the assigned area.
- Identifying and recognizing unmet medical needs and insights*5 in clinical settings.
- Hosting and managing medical education programs aimed at providing medical and scientific education to healthcare professionals.
- Planning and conducting Medical Advisory Board Meetings (MABM) to collect expert opinions from external medical and scientific experts.
- Creating and disseminating content aimed at raising disease awareness among the general public and patients.

*5 Potential medical insights, needs, and requests are identified through the analysis of information acquired primarily through medical and scientific exchanges with external medical science experts.
Challenge towards Creating New Value
In recent years, the environment surrounding medicine and science has been undergoing significant changes due to advancements in digital technology. The Medical Affairs Department of Sanwa Kagaku Kenkyusho is proactively embracing these new technologies. Through initiatives such as company-led real-world data (RWD) research and the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI), the department is striving to improve medicine, science, and healthcare.
